How We Think About Sourcing

The three questions we ask before any product earns a place in the PappleMart catalog.

The three questions we ask before any product earns a place in the catalog.

It is easy to fill an online store with products. It is harder to fill it with products you would actually buy yourself. As we build out PappleMart, that is the standard we are holding ourselves to, and it shapes how we plan to choose what ends up on these shelves.

Does it do what it says?

Before a listing goes live, the basic claims on the page need to hold up: the materials, the dimensions, the stated use. We would rather list fewer products with accurate descriptions than pad the catalog with copy that overpromises.

Is the price honest?

We are not interested in inflating a “was” price just to manufacture a discount. If something is $24.99, that is the price, plainly stated, and any future sale will be a real reduction, not a marked-up number crossed out for effect.

Would we explain the tradeoffs to a friend?

Every product involves tradeoffs — price versus durability, weight versus capacity, style versus practicality. Good product copy names those tradeoffs instead of hiding them. That is the bar for anything we write.

We are still early in building out supplier relationships, and we will be upfront as that grows: which categories are fully stocked, which are still expanding, and where a listing is a sample while we finalize sourcing. Transparency about what stage we are at matters as much as transparency about the products themselves.
